Two Questions To Ask Yourself When You’re Feeling Unloved

March 13, 2018

Last week I asked you a tough question  – “does your partner really love you?”

Today I’m back with another doozy…

“Do you really love your partner?”

More specifically – “what was the last thing you did to purposefully show your partner that you love them?”

After I published last week’s post about the Back Scratch Phenomenon, I had a sweet moment with my husband. He had read the email, and he came over and started vigorously scratching my back. “I’ll try to remember to do it more often!” he said. We both laughed.

As he walked away, the thought hit me. When was the last time I did something to show my husband that I love him? What was the last thing I did that was meant to clearly and specifically show my husband that I’m thinking about him and that I care about him?

I have a confession to make…

I had an embarrassingly difficult time thinking of a good answer!

Here’s the thing – it’s so easy to criticize our partners, but so much harder to be honest about our own behaviors.

It’s easy to feel unloved or unimportant, but so much harder to ask yourself, “am I giving my partner the love that I want to feel from them?”

It’s easy to wait for our partner to make the first move, but so much harder to take that initiative ourselves.

It’s also far too easy to fall into ruts with our partners, and stop putting in the effort that showing our love requires. (More on what I call The Leftovers Problem next week!)

Right now, take some time to ask yourself these two questions:
• What are the ways that I like to show my partner how much I love them?
• What my partner’s favorite ways to be shown love?

Then pick something and do it! TODAY!

Then, whenever you’re feeling unimportant or unloved, take a moment to ask yourself, “am I showing my partner the kind of love I want to receive in return?”

hey there!
