The VR Tenga, straight out of – where else? – Japan will soon male enable users to engage in virtual sex.

The product is the result of a partnership between Tenga, an adult sex toy producer, and Oculus VR, a pioneer in the virtual reality realm.

The user will be able to insert his penis into a modified version of one of Tenga’s male masturbators and view synced-up visuals through the virtual reality device.

Sex and technology have played together for decades (the invention of the vibrator is a story for another day), but this is obviously a huge innovative leap.

Pornography has attempted to create  3-D or “interactive” experiences before, to little success. Technology has never been able to get even close to simulating the experience of a partner until now.

It’s easy to make banal jokes about robot sex, but this technology has the potential to dramatically affect even the very definitions of sex. I’m interested to see how this new twist plays out!
