Here are the things I look for before making a recommendation for a particular toy or manufacturer:

 

High-quality materials

I think sex toys should be treated as an investment in your pleasure. Buy the highest-quality products you can afford, and look for materials like medical-grade silicone, medical-grade stainless steel, ceramic, and glass.

 

Body safe

Did you know that sex toy manufacturers aren’t required to use non-toxic ingredients? They also don’t need to properly disclose all of the chemicals used to produce their toys. Most sex toys are made out of heavily-treated plastics that contain compounds that can leach out of the toy and into the body, leading to serious health problems.

 

Reputable companies

The sex toy industry is highly unregulated, and there are plenty of companies that are producing bad products with little regard for their customers. Look for manufacturers and retailers that are transparent about the ways their products are made.

 

Sex-positive

Plenty of toys are labeled “for novelty use only.” If I see that sentence on a sex toy, I know it’s an indicator that the manufacturer doesn’t take their product seriously. I look for companies that thoughtfully and intelligently design their toys to improve the quality of their customers’ sex lives.
