The Weekend Sexperiment: Sexual Resolutions

January 10, 2014

Welcome to The Weekend Sexperiment! Every Friday, I serve up playful, flirty, and totally doable sex experiments to try over the weekend. Sometimes they’re for couples, sometimes for single folks — but always designed to spark fun, connection, and excitement.

If you want more ideas like this (for less than the cost of a couple of lattes), join The Spark. Each month we deliver fresh, flirty experiments to turn up the heat, keep things spicy, and keep your sex life exciting.

A little novelty. A little intention. And a whole lot of, “oh wow, why didn’t we do this sooner?”

This Weekend’s Sexperiment: Sex Resolutions!

Forget boring New Year’s resolutions—your sex resolutions should be fun, flirty, and something you actually want to follow through with. Here’s your task:

  • Come up with five resolutions for your sex life.
  • Add one concrete step for each resolution to make it happen.

If you’re partnered:

  • Come up with three joint resolutions.
  • Each of you also picks one personal resolution.

If you’re single:

  • All five are your own—and don’t be afraid to get a little wild!

Tips for success:

  • Be specific.
  • Frame everything in positive, playful language.

Include some outlandish or silly ideas—the fun is part of the experiment!

Ideas to Get You Started

Here are some ideas to get you started (resolution in bold, concrete step in italics):

  • Be more present during sex. Read a few articles with presence-building exercises.
  • Get more comfortable asking for what you want. Ask your partner for something low-risk, like a back rub.
  • Learn how to orgasm. (we have a course on this)
  • Have date night once a week. Schedule your first date.
  • Make your bedroom more sex-friendly. Buy new sheets or remove five pieces of clutter.
  • Try something new once a month. Map out the next six months on the calendar.
  • Talk to your kids more frequently about sex and relationships. Use a recent news story to open a dialogue. (need help starting the conversation?)
  • Experiment with a fantasy. Write out a script for how the fantasy would play out.
  • Pamper yourself once a week. Plan what you’re going to do for yourself for the next four weeks.
  • Develop a healthier relationship with your body. Sign up for a new exercise class.
  • Try out a new sexual position. (you can buy our sex position guide here)
