5 Minutes To Feeling Confident In Your Own Skin

July 11, 2018

I want you to do something right in this moment: picture yourself naked.

What’s that like for you?

If you’re like most people, this isn’t a comfortable experience! It might bring up judgments, shame, embarrassment, discomfort, avoidance, fear, anxiety, or all of the above.

The unfortunate truth is that most of us have negative relationships with our bodies.

And of course, having a negative relationship with your body can really impact your sex life. Here are just some of the ways:

You have a hard time even being intimate in the first place.
You get anxious about what your partner thinks of your body, or you don’t even allow them to see your body.
You get distracted by self-judgment during sex.
You’re less likely to experience orgasm and more likely to experience performance anxiety.
You don’t allow yourself to feel all the pleasure your body is capable of feeling.

This month, I’m going to help you improve your body confidence.

Feeling comfortable and in-tune with your body is essential to having the sex life you crave. So this month you’re going to work on accepting your body, learning to reconnect with it (even when you don’t feel like it), and establishing a loving and positive relationship with the frame that carries you through life.

To kick off this first week, we’re going to start with the most fundamental aspect of your relationship with your body: self-care.

Does it ever feel like your life is so jammed packed with things you HAVE to do that you never have a moment to yourself?

Between work, relationships, family, exercise, side hustles, book clubs, volunteer groups, therapy, and more, it can feel like every moment of every day must be spent very wisely.

But what happens when we pile too much stuff on our plate without giving ourselves the necessary down time to actually enjoy life? (Hah! what a concept!)

You’ve probably heard that the antidote to this kind of stressed out, fast-paced lifestyle is self-care.

Self-care at its core means to care for yourself. It sounds like such a simple concept, but most of us just don’t take good care of ourselves.

But here’s the thing: if you want to have a positive relationship with yourself, you must care for yourself.

Self-care is especially important when it comes to your body confidence. I work with plenty of men and women whose bodies are totally capable of experiencing pleasure, but their minds are blocked from making that mind-body connection.

They’re not used to taking care of their bodies, so their bodies don’t take care of them in return.

Most of us spend our days hating our bodies and refusing to take care of them, but then we get into the bedroom and we want our bodies to feel relaxed and pleasurable. But it just doesn’t work that way!

So to kick off our month-long body confidence project, I want you to get started improving your self-care habits.

This week, I challenge you to:

Do one small self-care activity for your body every day.
Do one larger self-care activity for your body once this week.

I want to encourage you to pamper your body, and create experiences that will feel comfortable, loving, and a little luxurious to your body.

To support you in getting started, I’ve put together a free guide with 24 different ideas. All you need to do to get the guide is click the button below.

Some of these ideas seem small, but trust me, they make all the difference in how you relate to yourself and your body! These kinds of activities are the building blocks you need to create body confidence. Plus, when you make positive associations with your own body, your potential for experiencing pleasure multiplies.

Think of every activity as a small act of kindness to yourself. We all know to be kind and compassionate to other human beings, but we often forget to show that same respect for ourselves!

I talk about this topic a lot with my clients. Here’s how one recent client described her self-care journey:

“It has never been easy for me to sink in to a self-care routine. I spent many years hating my body and hating the way I looked. But through our work, I finally realized that no amount of self-hate would ever change the way my body looked. Instead, what I could change was my mindset. I could choose to take care of my body with love and tenderness. Practicing compassion and self-care feels sooo much better than berating myself. Pleasure feels SO much better than pain. Unless you’re into that ;)”

With the theme of body confidence, here’s what I have in store for you for the rest of the month:

How to feel more pleasure in your body on a daily basis.
How to let your partner love your body.
How to be more present during sex, and less distracted by judgmental thoughts.
How to feel more connected to and alive in your own body.

Give this challenge a try and let me know how it goes! I want to know what act of self-care makes the biggest impact on your relationship with your body.
